Cookware, which brand for which method?

I'm looking to stock my kitchen with some new cookware and I don't have to have all the pieces match. I've seen on the cooking shows that some braise in le creuset but then fry in all-clad or non-stick. What are the best pot brands for which method?

First and foremost ... TJ Maxx! They've got all the best stuff for real cheap ... especially if you don't care about matching.

Now, here's what you need:

The basics:

Frying Pan (aka Saute Pan): Copper exterior, stainless steel interior. You get even cooking and quick transfer of heat.

Pots: Good to have at least one large cast iron (aka Dutch Oven). The rest can be All-Clads.

Perforated Pot: This is a pot with lots of holes in it. Should fit inside of one of your regular pots. Good for veges, potatoes, pasta, or anything you cook in water.

Deep Saute Pan (aka Sautoir): This is for when the family and friends are all coming over and you need to get some serious cooking done. Copper exterior, stainless interior.

For all your copperware, there's a company call Mauviel (France) that makes the best stuff, but it's not cheap. Also, remember that the heavier you cookware is, the better.

Just buy a top brand and your covered. La Creuset is used for braising because because it is ceramic. Any proper size pot will work for that assuming its a quality brand. I use All-Clad because its one of the best and easy to get. Dont worry so much about materials because most home cookware is made the same. Commercial grade pans are made completely different for a different purpose so most things like copper in consumer items is pretty much a gimmick. If you buy quality you already are getting the right material.

My husbands birthday is next month and he wants a new cookware set does anyone have any suggestions on brands?

He is a great cook and needs great pots and pans any ideas will be very helpful.

stainless with a copper bottom is nice. that's what I have...they're great!

what we did to get ours....

went to all the local department stores and shopped around....we found a 12 piece set on clearance for $75....you can do some of the research online...but you are going to have to do a little leg work to get a good deal....but it was well worth it! we love ours!

also, the heavier the better....you can get aluminum look alikes and they're super light...but they don't cook as well. layers are good. copper layers inside are the best. multiple layers of aluminum inside are ok.

don't get teflon coated pans....teflon is hazardous to your health.

don't get any with plastic handles because they can't be put in the oven when a dish requires being seared on the stove and then finished off in the oven.

you don't necessarily have to get name brands...just be picky about the features.

I love Emerilware for stainless steel, but QVC and HSN have nonstick cookware with a lifetime warranty.

le cruset. it's nice and heavy.which means it spreads the heat real well.

Don't do this! A cookware set should just be bought out of regular household expenses! Get him something personal, for gosh'sake.

wolfgang puck has a fab set of cookware. stainless steel , no teflon.

the best? all-clad.

I love my calphalon, regular and non-stick.

I like my Kitchen-Aid very much.

I love my Cuisnart stainless steel.

Emeril's Emerilware is the best I've used. Especially the cast iron pans. I love em. They come pre-seasoned. Its pricey, but its worth it. The website is below to check them out. But you can also check out ebay.com to get indivdual items. I got my cast iron grill pan there for a deal.

Thew best is cast iron. It is healthy, safe, and cooks like no other cook ware.

The best idea is not to buy your pots and pans nor your knives in sets.

Go to a good restaurant supply store and select some no b.s. pieces of commercial cookware.

Lagostina, they are sale at Canadian Tire, now for 60% off.

My favorite cookware of all time is T-Fal. It's not the most expensive, but it's not the cheap stuff either. I've had mine for years and have no complaints. Congratullations on having such a great husband!

tefal & corella

I love Berndes, just got rid of my Scanpan which I grew to hate! Every once in a while I can pick up a piece of Berndes at TJ Max, but I have also gone on the web and picked up some. Nice and heavy, goes in the oven, is very non stick, cleans up like a dream!

Happy Birthday to Hubby, what a great gift!!!

Le Creuset.

Enamelled iron ware and fairly heavy!

Any search engine will throw up a myriad of places to buy it.

Good brands for kitchen cookware?

Im getting a cookware set for my parents for christmas. Im going to get them from target or wal-mart. I need to know what are some good brands of pots and pan sets from target or wal-mart that are sturdy, i don't want anything that is cheap!

farberware AND revere is what i have in my kitchen that are both sold in the stores you mentioned...

i have had these pots and pans for 23 years without incident!!! either will do.

It depends on the type of cookware you want to buy for your parents. For example, among the well known manufacturers of aluminum cookware are Berndes, Calphalon, Circulon, Anolon, Cuisinart and Swiss Diamond.

Some of the well known brands of cast iron cookware are All-Clad, Lodge, John Wright, Le Creuset and Wagner.

Among the well known manufacturers of copper cookware are Calphalon, Ruffoni, All-Clad, Cuisinart and Mauviel.

There are many reputed makers of stainless steel cookware and among the best known are KitchenAid, Le Creuset, All-Clad, Calphalon and Cuisinart.

Among the well known manufacturers of waterless cookware are NatureSeal, HealthSmart, Maxam, BELKRAFT, World’s Finest, Chef’s Secret and West Bend.

Some well known names in titanium cookware manufacturing are Scanpan, Eurolux, Anolon, WOLL and Evernew.

Click on the following link to read more about the advantages and disadvantages of each of these materials for cookware:

Are you looking for nonstick or stainless?

My nonstick set is by Mr. Foods. I love it. Food never sticks and clean up is a breeze! This is the set I use the most.

My stainless set is by Cuisinart. This one is also a great set. Fabulous for recipes which require deglazing the pan or a nice crust on a cut of meat.

KitchenAid

Cuisinart, Le Creuset

T-Fal is good.

What is the best cookware brand?

I am trying to buy my mom a nice set of cookware for this Christmas. I am not familiar at all with ny cookware brands or anything... Do you have any suggestions? or experiences? thanks! Happy holidays!

I prefer Calphalon to anything. It's very popular.

Does your mom have a favorite set or brand she uses now? You could replace what she has if she really loves it, or maybe you could get a hint on what she'd like.

Good luck and Happy Holidays to you!

I think that it depends on your budget, calphalon is pricier, good. Cuisinart makes a similar look as calphalon. Honestly, a good nonstick frying pan can be bought at a supermarket, so if you can spend a bt more, good. Yet, if you find a nice-looking set and its not the most expensive, its probably just as good. :-) That's a thoughtful gift for your mom, good for you!

i have all the products of milano cookware. they are great as you see my avatar i am a chef i love to cook and to have a milano cookware set is like a pilot and his plane i know the owner of this company and he is a very nice man. i dont know how he is making money selling these for so cheap. check out this website the name sounds kind of ghetto but they are really great. the best part is there is a lifetime warranty

www.zcookware.com

I still prefer the old RevereWare cookware. It is the copper bottom stainless stuff. That is for the pots and pans. for other stuff I like the very smooth Lodge cast iron. But that is extremely pricey! the rough every body can afford it, Lodge cast iron that is available at most stores isn't as good.

Get something heavy on the bottom and nothing aluminum (unless it's anodized). Make sure the lids fit well and have handles that are easy to grip with hot pads. Glass lids are nice, but not necessary. Nonstick surfaces are also not necessary, so avoid those.

I agree with the first answer- I also have Racheal Ray- it is okay. My favorite is T-Fal, but you should try to extract some info from your mom- see what it is she is looking for. She might have a preference on non-stick or stainless steel.

I have the Emeril cookware and I love it! I have had it for 5 years now and it still looks like it did the day I got it. I use it everyday!!!!

i have the rachael ray and its ok but not as great as you'd think. my t-fal is better.

calphalon is good.

Le Creuset is my dream cookware.

I really like Cooks brand by JC Penny. I have had mine for 2 years and they are like brand new. They are a lot like the Calphalon

Magnalite

we love the Calphalon that we bought for my mom last year.

What are some brands of high quality cookware?

I want to buy some high quality cookware. I like everything about Saladmaster except the price. Does anyone know any other brands that I could check out??

Pyrex for glassware like cassarole dishes, ect. and for your pots and pans the VERY BEST is made by Volrath. They are professional grade, double walled stainless steel with an aluminum core. Quite pricy but they are amazing. I buy nothing but professional grade kitchen equipment now. You can go to any restaurant supply house for really great products.

corning ware the price is right and they have a very durable product and some really nice patterns

Le Creuset is a very good quality, but expensive. A lot of chefs on Food Network use these pans. Expect to pay at least $100 for one pan, a lot of times, $200 and up. Each pan is made from only one mold and then the mold is destroyed. These pans will last forever. No offense to the person who mentioned Corningware, but those pans are cheap. I wouldn't waste my money on them.

Reverie ware.Very good quality and they last forever.

Bird owners - What cookware brands are safe to use around birds?

I know anything non-stick is bad, but if you think about it, there's not really much out there these days that's NOT non-stick. Pans are simple; I can use stainless steel. Anyone know if Calphalon Anodized Aluminum pans are safe? When it comes to cookie sheets, and other baking implements, what brands do you recommend? I cook a lot, and unfortunately live in a small apartment so fumes would carry quite quickly even if my soon-to-be timneh were in another room with the door closed. I'm extremely cautious about this because my tiel died this way even though my bedroom door was closed. This seems like the trickiest bird safety hazard to overcome. Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

I have my peach-fronted conure and Quaker parakeet on opposite sides of my kitchen doorway in my apartment, and I use Corning French White and Visionware cookware, as well as good old cast iron. There are some really attractive enamel-coated cast iron pots, pans, and skillets that heat evenly, and you can spray them with PAM, which helps a lot. I believe the Calphalon Anodized Aluminum pans are safe. I also have stainless steel-coated cast iron cookware which is great, too. But I do shy away from ANY "nonstick" cookware, because I couldn't forgive myself if one of my flock were to die because of the fumes. Hope this helps some.

if you are using cookware around your bird they are in trouble because they would be in the pan at my house.

I have learned to use Visionware (glass) cookware. I will use a non-stick ELECTRIC griddle regulated to a temp no higher than 275 for eggs only.

I understand you frustration, and Visionware takes some getting used to, but with four birds of my own not far from the kitchen I do not take any chances, proper ventilation and fresh air is very important.

use glass or ceramic to be 100% safe. for cookie sheet i just saw some silicone ones. lately they have been making all sorts of cookware of silicone.

even though teflon cookware can be bad for bird (under the reason that airborn teflon kills bird) most cookware doesnt release the teflon unless you were to put the pan on the stove at high temp, and put nothing into it , and let it burn.. beyond those circunstances you are goin to have a hard time releasing the teflon, all other pans, are safe as far as i know ,, my own bird has been around for 14 years.. and still kicking ..

Think about getting a small air purifer and mount over your kitchen door in the kitchen..since heat and the smells with them rise..the purifer should be able to catch it all.

Do you have a window in the kitchen??

I use non-stick cook ware and I have for most of my life and several of my birds have been with me forever.

Also scented candles and the powder you sprinkle on your carpets can be deadly.

Do you have a self cleaning oven...huge no no.

What are some good non-stick cookware brands that are not very expensive ?

i see non stick cook ware ranging from 50$ to 1000 $ for the same things, what would be the reasonable price to buy them ?

there is an offer for invitations cookware 8 pieces for $50,

is it a good buy ?

thanks for the response.

I take it by 8 pieces, they mean 4 pots and 4 lids. I had a cheap T-fal set from Wal-Mart 13 years ago and they're still working fine, although the paint has come off the outside. But we got a 20 piece non-stick set from Costco 3 years ago which is absoutely great. That was about $90.

I've had the same set of T-Fal pots and pans for YEARS. I've used them and used them, they've made several moves with me and my family, some are dented, some are banged up, but I refuse to toss them. They are the best I've ever used and with all the cooking I've done over the years, they still maintain their non-stick coating. You can get a very nice set at Walmart for around 50 bucks!

edit to chefgrille above me: This is so funny, I posted this before reading your post, it just cracked me up because most of the paint is gone from my pans too, but they just don't quit do they?!!

I use calpholan and it works really good. Any good chef must also have a well seasoned cast iron pan.

I'm not too good with cookware, but my mom uses a Teflon pan. If you do get a Teflon pan, and you're cooking eggs, dont scrape the spoon to hard on the Teflon inside, because some parts might fall into the food :(

Rivere ware is your best buy for quality and price range. This cookware can be purchased at any local huge department store.

Stainless steel cookware? Best brands? How much is too much to pay for, say, a 10 pc. set?

I need to replace these horrific T-fal pots and pans I have! What are the best brands in Stainless Steel cookware? Thanks!

I like Tramontina. You can type the name in your searchbar to go to their site for styles and prices.

Instead of buying a 10 piece set have you thought about buying pans for specific tasks? A really nice pan to fry eggs in. A large pot for spaghetti, corn-on-the cob, etc. You may find that you don't really need a big set at all. Check out "Cook's Illustrated" at your library. They have excellent product reviews.

What cookware brands do you like and dislike?

What is your favorite brand of cookware and why? Which brand do you hate and why?

I purchased an entire set of stainless steel Calphalon at a local department store. The series was called "Cooking with Calphalon" and I found out very quickly that it's the low-end of the product quality spectrum. I was excited to see Calphalon at an affordable price. Sadly, you get what you pay for. One day I hope to have a higher-end set of Calphalon. That would be great.

Someone already mentioned La Creuset cookware. It's cast iron covered in porcelain enamel. Fantastic cookware, but fantastically expensive.

I obtained one piece of Circulon cookware from a friend and I've loved it since the day I got it. It browns beautifully...I've never had a cooking mishap in that pan. Just like every other brand, there is a low-end and high-end product line.

And - you can never go wrong with good ol' cast iron. For the right things, of course.

In my opinion...if you're ever in doubt -- always consult Williams Sonoma. I LOVE that store. I trust just about every brand they sell!

I like cooking with copper pots and pans

thank you

I think they have now found out that those non-stick cookware actually causes cancer. I would stick with all-stainless or maybe ones with copper bottom for even heat distribution. Brands like Kitchen Aid, Cuisinart, and All-Clad are good but cost more. They would probably last longer too. Try going to DealNews.com and check their postings of Amazon.com deals.

Calphalon. And Cooks Essentials.

i like farbarware pots and pans and pyrex baking dishes. the teflon covered stuff makes me a little nervous with all this talk of it being toxic.

Le Creuset cast iron is the absolute best! Solid, reliable, enamel coated interiors wear like "iron" - I call them my magic french cooking pots.

Calaphon would be a dream. I'm aspiring to own a couple professional pans in this line some day.

T-Fal is only as good as you're willing to pay - it comes in the lowest possible price and quality to a much superior range of professional ware that's okay for the Teflon coated type of cookware.

I personally HATE cooking in standard 18-8 stainless steel as well as Pyrex stove-top. I will use Pyrex for oven and baking only. It's where it belongs in my opinion.

Aluminium is crap for cookware as far as I'm concerned. Don't care for silicon bake ware either.

Pyrex is good as well as corningware.

I like All Clad cookware, it's strong, durable, nice to look at, can go in the oven if needed. It's very heavy, which is a good thing, but if you are already lifting a 10lb pot of water, another 6lbs of pan is a lot to hold.

There is no teflon in these pans, they are all stainless steel.

I'd personally buy the best you can afford, because you only do it once, and the cheap stuff you'll have to buy again down the road.
